Hyundai Motorsport has announced the appointment of Cyril Abiteboul as its new Team Principal, ahead of the start of the 2023 WRC season next week.
Ex-Renault F1 boss Cyril Abiteboul has been appointed as Hyundai Motorsport’s new Team Principal. Abiteboul takes over from Julien Moncet, who was promoted to Deputy Team Principal at Hyundai after Andrea Adamo’s shock exit from the team ahead of the 2022 season.
Moncet stays at the team and ”will take on a new role related to future technology.” The former powertrains boss was always named ”Deputy Team Principal” instead of “Team Principal” as Hyundai’s top management sought a replacement for Andrea Adamo.
Abiteboul’s first public outing for Hyundai will be at the start of the 2023 WRC season next week at Rally Monte Carlo.
Abiteboul said: “I am relishing the opportunity to join Hyundai Motorsport as Team Principal.
“In motorsport, like in the rest of their activities, the Hyundai brand is cautiously building its leadership. I am excited at the prospect of being part of it, managing the WRC and Customer Racing programs, where the team has already proven to be strong competitors.
“I am looking forward to immersing myself into the rallying community and discovering more about this spectacular sport. Hyundai has given me its full support to make the transition into this role a smooth one. I can’t wait to get started,” Abiteboul concluded.
