WRC2 championship leader Andreas Mikkelsen won’t be participating in this week’s Rally Portugal after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Norwegian won the opening round of the championship in Monte Carlo. His fine form continued in the Arctic Rally with second place in the category. Mikkelsen leads the championship by 35 points over Marco Bulacia.
Mikkelsen says he ”will do everything” to start in Rally Italia Sardegna in 2 weeks time: “Unfortunately, I was tested COVID-19 positive before Rally Portugal. I really wanted to show how fast the ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo is on gravel. So, I have gone into self-isolation and will do everything to be 100 per cent fit for Rally Italia Sardegna.”
