Thierry Neuville is forced to retire from the lead after SS14, the opening stage of Sunday.
Rear-right problems saw the Belgian drop a lot of time through the stage. He managed to complete the stage 59.2 seconds down on stage-winner Ogier which meant he kept his lead. But Hyundai confirmed a few minutes later that it’s game over for the Belgian with a broken rear-right damper.
“Thierry Neuville & Martijn Wydaeghe [are] forced to retire from the lead at Safari Rally Kenya after SS14 with a broken rear-right damper. The team will recover the car and bring it back to service” reads the statement.
Neuville’s retirement means it’s Katsuta who leads effectively after SS14. Ogier is second (+4.6s) with Tänak in third (+1:17.6)
